Summer Weekend Workouts: This summer, why not try more adventurous, invigorating and challenging outdoor activities on the weekend to blast calories and burn fat? Recreational pursuits such as biking, hiking, and inline skating allow you to reap up to six times more fat-blasting, body-shaping benefits than cruising around the neighborhood on foot. And you don't have to be a hard-core athlete or fitness freak to get the most out of these activities. Top off your normal weekday exercise routine with one of these exhilarating weekend activities, and you'll be fitter and healthier in no time. Kayaking – up to 380 calories burned per hour sculpting your upper body. You target your shoulders, triceps, biceps, back, and core. Kayaking can be like meditating on water and the perfect vantage point for taking in the abundant wildlife and sea life. Hiking – up to 400 calories burned per hour while improving cardiovascular fitness and stronger, leaner body. Hiking can get you to unplug from society and take you out of your world so you can reflect. Speedminton – about 400 calories burned per hour while getting great cardio, better hand-eye coordination and spending time with friends and family. This hot new game is a cross between racquetball, badminton and tennis but with no nets or walls involved. Cycling – approx. 500 to 700 calories burned per hour, depending on speed and terrain while improving cardiovascular fitness and building solid legs. Your energy will increase while your build a sense of empowerment. Inline Skating – up to 800 calories burned per hour while sculpting your thighs without pounding your knees. Skating is much less jarring than other high-intensity sports like jogging and provides for a high-adrenaline release from mental baggage. (Prevention)

Top Ten Foods for Women: Women are special. They have unique nutritional requirements to keep them energized and focused, especially as they age. Here's a great list of foods that every woman needs to incorporate into their weekly diet. 1) Soy protein is found in products like tofu, soymilk, soy nut butter and cereal. Soy protein is heart healthy and is rich in phytonutrients. 2) Whole grains are high in fiber and therefore help stave off digestive problems. 3) Foods rich in folate like asparagus, oranges, fortified cereals and beans. Folate is important during pregnancy and has been shown to be important for heart health. 4) Cranberries and cranberry juice. Cranberries help prevent bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder, thus warding off urinary tract infections, 5) Water. Though it's not a food, water is important for all metabolic processes in the body. It also helps with digestion, weight loss and improves the appearance of the skin. 6) Nuts are full of monounsaturated fats, which can help lower cholesterol levels, and polyunsaturated fats, which can help prevent heart disease. 7) Green leafy vegetables. These vegetables provide important nutrients as well as fiber to the diet. 8) Fruits rich in vitamin C. These include citrus fruits, strawberries, green and red peppers, collard and mustard greens, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, potatoes, kiwi, guava and parsley. In addition to contributing to overall health, fruits rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant, have recently been linked to a decreased risk of coronary heart disease. 9) Iron rich foods. Good sources of iron are garbanzo beans, lean beef, swiss chard, tofu and dried apricots. 10) Calcium rich foods. Calcium helps keep bones strong and along with regular weight bearing exercise, helps to stave off osteoporosis. Good choices are low fat dairy products, dark green leafy vegetables and calcium fortified products, juices and grains. (FoodFit.com)

Fight or Flight: Did you know we haven’t changed much in the last 5000 years? It’s true. Imagine a prehistoric workday of hunting and gathering food, and your stress would look like a dinosaur coming across your path. Adrenaline would be released from your brain into your arms and legs so that you could put up a fight or run like heck. The problem is when you are confronted with a stressful situation in your workplace today, the adrenaline is released into your body and your response to your stressful situation may be only to talk about the problem and think about appropriate solutions. The result is that the adrenaline doesn’t circulate and do its “fight or flight” actions and over time may cause stress related illnesses. One solution could be to look at the activities offered through LifeBalance to get your body moving and help your adrenaline flow in a life-enhancing way. (Brought to you by Jason

Inner Value: Before you set off to conquer the world, set out to improve yourself. Build character and discipline on the inside, and you'll be able to handle any goal or challenge on the outside. When you set for yourself an outer goal, be sure to also create an inner goal. Fully become, within yourself, the person who can reach that goal in the outside world, and you will. When you feel the need to change others, seek also to change yourself. Meet people where they are, with true understanding and acceptance, and the relationships you build will bear sweet fruit. The person you are on the inside determines all the things you become on the outside. Nurture your inner life, and your whole world will prosper. In each moment, in every situation, seek to build lasting, genuine value on the inside. And that value will quickly spread outward from you, as far as you can see. (Global

Check Your Benefits: Are you using your health insurance for all its benefits? Some insurance plans have additional benefits, such as discounts on preventative health maintenance, chiropractic, naturopathic treatment and more that are underused by participants. Check out your plan and make sure you are getting the most out of your benefits (Brought to you by Xenium
