Workout Clothes That Work: What you wear to the gym isn't as important as actually getting there and working out, but the right gear can help you feel more comfortable and confident as you exercise.

Top sellers for women's active wear include bra tops and stylish sweat suits. Crossover lifestyle wear is also an emerging trend; clothes that you can wear to work out and then to the store. As for men, tried-and-true cotton T-shirts are always popular, as are shirts that wick away moisture. These synthetic blends are available in sleeveless styles or short sleeve crewnecks. For the lower body longer shorts are consistent sellers, but not shorts that go below the knee. Workout Fabrics – In the last five years, there's been a proliferation of workout clothes made with fabric blends that wick, or pull away moisture from the body. These blends also have the advantage of drying very quickly. Many active-wear designers have their own proprietary brand of synthetic fabrics such as Nike Dri-FIT or Champion Double Dry. These fabrics are great for medium to high intensity workouts or any activity that generates a lot of fluid loss. They keep moisture away and also breathe to keep you cool. On Your Feet – A good shoe is important for working out. For low-impact activities, consider a cross-training shoe. Cross-trainers also provide the lateral stability required for lifting weights. For cardio activities, it's probably best to have a running shoe, but a cross-training shoe can work as well. Other sports-specific footwear is recommended for activities such as basketball or racquetball, because these shoes offer the best traction for your respective sport. For socks, most people wear anklets and they shouldn't be too thick or too thin as they can cause blisters. Sport-Specific Gear – Cross-training clothes that take you from a weight class to the treadmill are the most convenient and economical. But in some cases, it helps to have sport-specific clothes and accessories. For example: Spin Class – Wear padded shorts for comfort and bicycle shoes that clip, which can give you a better workout. Weight Lifting – Use gloves that give you a strong grip and protect against blisters; or wrist straps that tighten your grip on heavier weights. Swimming – For swimming laps, women should wear one-piece suits. Men should wear briefs, not board shorts, which can give too much resistance in the water. Yoga – Wear yoga pants that allow the lower body to move freely. Remember, when looking for workout clothes, make sure that clothing isn't so binding that it limits your range of motion. Ten Steps to Weight Control: Many people find it hard to deal with weight control, opting instead for miracle diets and quick cures. But it remains no secret that the best way to control weight is to consume fewer calories and exercise more. You can't just change your lifestyle habits for a week or two. To successfully manage your weight, you must commit to a lifetime of permanent changes in eating behavior. The following 10 tips to weight reduction don't involve buying expensive foods or hiring a personal trainer. Instead, they involve common sense. 1) Pan-fry or sauté foods with a non-stick spray or low-calorie butter substitutes. Bake or broil instead of frying. 2) Eat high-fiber foods, such as a bran muffin instead of a donut. 3) Use sugar substitutes in foods and beverages. 4) Order "lite" fare when eating out and purchase low-calorie foods. 5) Try a meal plan substituting low-calorie, sugar-free foods and beverages for many of the foods currently used. 6) Never skip a meal. Eat three-to-six times a day in smaller portions. 7) Fool your mind and stomach by using smaller plates to satisfy your psychological need for larger portions. (Hint: Many restaurants already do this.) 8) Eat and chew slowly. It takes 20 minutes for the stomach to tell the brain that it's full. 9) Weigh yourself on a regular schedule, but don't become a slave to it. 10) Reward yourself with non-culinary pleasures. Buy a new outfit or a new pair of shoes. Go see a movie (skip the snack bar). Workout with a friend or join a gym. Get a massage… (24 Hour Fitness)

Yesterday is history…tomorrow is mystery…today is a gift." – Eleanor Roosevelt.

You Be You, I’ll Be Me: March 2 was Doctor Seuss’s birthday and with that news…I will not snooze, I will not delay! Life in balance is filled with times of up, down and all around. Sometimes we need to run and sometimes we need to rest, but whenever you are in balance is always best. But how…oh how, do we find that balance in work and life? Well, it is as simple as being round as a ball or sharp as a knife. Just be yourself and let your strengths shine. You be you and I'll be me...and we’ll find it together one step at a time. Miles and Miles: A mile on the ocean and a mile on land are not the same distance. On the ocean, a nautical mile measures 6,080 feet. A land or statute mile is 5,280 feet. The nautical mile is based on the circumference of the earth at the equator. Since the earth is 360 degrees of longitude around, and degrees are broken into 60 minutes, which means there are 360 * 60 = 21,600 minutes of longitude around the earth. This was taken as the basis for the nautical mile; thus, by definition, 1 minute of longitude at the equator is equal to 1 nautical mile. So the earth is ideally, by definition, 21,600 nautical miles (and 21,600 "minutes" of longitude) in circumference at the equator. A knot is a unit of measure for speed. If you are traveling at a speed of 1 nautical mile per hour, you are said to be traveling at a speed of 1 knot.

Serendipity: Good things will come to you in ways you could never anticipate or expect. Yet if you're constantly placing judgments, conditions and restrictions on your life, you'll miss out on most of those good things. Being open to the abundance of life means being open to the unknown and unexpected. If you hide away from what you do not know, you'll never discover anything new. The world is constantly changing, and many of those changes can seem frightening. Yet within each and every change there is opportunity. When the world changes, legions of positive possibilities are born. When the unexpected happens, there is much new value to be created. Choose to welcome the constant newness that is essential to life. For it brings new ways to more fully express and fulfill your own unique purpose. In every unexpected turn of events is a pleasant surprise waiting to be discovered. Open yourself to the freshness of each dawning moment, and find those magnificent treasures that have just been born. (Daily Motivator)

Wellness in the Workplace: “Would you care to try a fresh green salad with balsamic vinaigrette and pecans, or a light turkey and havarti sandwich?” This is not a question one would expect to hear in the average company lunch room. Employers facing increasing health insurance costs are closely watching the impact of today’s stressful workload and fast-paced life style on the mental and physical wellbeing of their employees. Employees are putting in longer days at work; either skipping lunches or opting for unhealthy fast food in order to maximize their time while at work. Long hours are cutting into their time to exercise and relax outside of work, leading to inactivity and increasing stress. Many employers are realizing the long-term financial health of their company rests partially on the health of their employees. The search for creative solutions is leading to the establishment of wellness committees and implementation of wellness programs like the LifeBalance Program amongst a growing number of companies. Some companies are also sponsoring healthy snack bowls (full of fruit and nuts as an answer to the ever present vending machine full of chips and candy) to organized walking groups using their lunch hours for healthy hikes to inviting professional chefs to prepare healthy lunches for their employees and providing a healthy alternative to the question, “Would you like fries with that?” (Brought to you by Xenium)
