Anchorage Employers Invest in Employee Wellness with Implementation of LifeBalance Program
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA (December 2007) - Beginning January 1, 2008, employees of the Municipality of Anchorage, Residential Mortgage and USKH will begin participation in the LifeBalance Program, an active wellness program designed to promote active lifestyle choices and a healthy work-life balance. The program features online wellness tools, tailored member events, savings on recreational, cultural and wellness activities and a monthly newsletter featuring expert advice, healthy recipes and recreational, cultural and wellness activities and tips.
“We are pleased to work with these three additional employers to offer their employees the opportunity to pursue wellness utilizing the LifeBalance Program’s wide variety of resources and partnerships with local recreational, cultural and wellness businesses. It is exciting to grow our membership base in Anchorage, a community with a vested interest in the health of its residents,” said Dave Miller, LifeBalance Program Director.
The Municipality of Anchorage, Residential Mortgage and USKH will be joining other Alaska employers already investing in employee wellness through the LifeBalance Program including Providence Health & Services, Associated General Contractors and PeaceHealth.
The trend for businesses to invest in wellness programs has recently grown exponentially as companies have not only seen an improvement in individual employee health, but have also seen a significant return on investment. In the American Journal of Health Promotion, an analysis by Larry Chapman highlights a 28% reduction in sick leave absenteeism, 26% reduction in use of the health care benefit, 30% reduction in worker's comp clams and disability management losses with the implementation of wellness programs.
The LifeBalance Program, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, has been helping clients and members achieve an active, healthy and balanced life through recreational, cultural and wellness activities, events and resources since 1996. The LifeBalance Program is sold to businesses as an employer sponsored employee benefit or bundled into health/association plan offerings as a value added wellness component and healthy lifestyle promotion. The LifeBalance Program currently supports over 1,000 clients and 350,000 LifeBalance Program members in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Idaho, Utah and Montana. Existing strategic relationships include Providence Health Plan, Associated General Contractors, CHP, Pacific Health Trust, Providence Health & Services, PeaceHealth, West Coast Bank and Xenium.
